Bench press, no bench?

Is it just as effective to do the original bench press on the floor without the bench?

At my house I don't have a bench, so I just lay flat on the floor.

Is this bad?

Re: Bench press, no bench?

Bad? No, I wouldn't call it bad, I'd call it less effective. Do them the way you are, and yo may notice more development in your triceps, more than your chest. Until you get a way to do a real bench press, you can do what you're doing after you do push ups between chairs. Do them with your feet elevated, and dipping deep between chairs.

Re: Bench press, no bench?

Off the floor would be termed floor presses. Powerlifters use those alot.

I think you'd have a hard time getting much stretch in the pecs doing floor presses.

Re: Bench press, no bench?

Actually people with shoulder problems have been told again and again to just go to 90degrees.....keeps alot of shoulder out of it.

Re: Bench press, no bench?

Anyone can hurt their shoulders doing any pressing exercise, just have to stress and focus form. Even when form is spot on sometime bad things happen.

Re: Bench press, no bench?

No, not bad at all.

Use what you have.

As long as you're stimulating your muscle, and offering intense contractions, you should be ok.
