Bruised knees

Kind of new to the whole lifting thing and was wandering if its normal for your knees to bruise from doing squats and leg press?

Re: Bruised knees

Swelling is common, but never heard of knee bruising. A lot of injuries have knee bruising symptoms; either way ice and rest could do you best. And it's up to you to see a doctor so you figure out what is really up w/it.

[Chiropractors at midwestsportsfans.com, 'knee bone bruise treatment, diagnosis']

If you push your knees when they need to heal, you might not be doing any poor form squats for a lot longer.

Proper squatting technique should not injure your knees.

Re: Bruised knees

I think I can trace my knee problems back to a training technique that I tried, but did it improperly. I usually have to rest my knee for almost a week and a half in between leg days. Oh well. I give it hell on that leg day though.

Re: Bruised knees

I think I figured out why I have the bruising. When I was on the leg press today I was on my last set and I was going until failure. When I was struggling to get my last rep up I put my hands on my knees to help push it up. The bruising is right where I put my hands. I didnt realize I was pushing hard enough to bruise myself but I cant think of what else would be causing it.

Re: Bruised knees

You're probably right, it has to do with placing your hands there - you're pushing harder than you realize and likely not letting up. never heard of it just from doing the exercises.
