no My Aching Wrists!

My wrists hurt after i use free weights to work out my arms. Do I just have weak wrists or am I not using the weight properly? I've been shown by trainer's how to do my arm workouts, so I don't think I am holding them incorrectly, but I could be wrong. Also, if it is a weak wrist thing, what are some good wrist guards I could buy?

Re: My Aching Wrists!

My wrists hurt lately as well. but I havent done any chest in a long time because of my shoulder, I think it just needs to get back into the swing of things. So in your case it maybe weak wrists.

Re: My Aching Wrists!

I too suffered from some bad bad wrist pain-->to the point where I couldn't do curls with less weight than my bi's could handle...Unfortunately, the answer was laying off of them for 2 months That was just MY solution though, not necessarily the best one.

Re: My Aching Wrists!

Most often the pain in the wrist is caused by bending the palms back too far and stretching out the tendons in your wrists.

To avoid this you need to:

1. Avoid push ups with your palms on the floor and other exercises that require palms on the floor.

2. Wrap your thumbs around the bar when benching.

3. Place the bar over the meaty part of your palm so that the weight is on-axis with the bones in your forearm.

I think if you do this for 2 or 3 weeks you will find that the pain will subside. It will subside quicker if you take time off from working out, but that is probably not in the cards.

If you do pushups, then get those inexpensive pushup stands and use them. Make sure your grip is as described above.

Addendum: I found this article about gripping on the bench press. It has a photo and that is more explicit than my description above.

Re: My Aching Wrists!

I know what you are saying. It has alot to do with flexibility and mobility of the wrists. How often do you stretch?

Re: My Aching Wrists!

Possibly some sort of tendon/ligament irritation?

I have (what i assume is) a similar pain sometimes when i get tendonitis. Generally resulting from curls or skullcrushers.

After you workout, try contrast baths.

Get a washing up bowl of warm water, and another of cold water, and bathe your arms in each alternately.

Its an old strongman trick for protecting your hands from permanent damage, but the principle is the same for any of this sort of issue.

Couldnt hurt to supplement your stretching and flexibility work with these.

I feel you're pain. I have the same pain in my left wrist/forearm. It only hurts right when I set the bar down and start letting go of it. Sucks.

Good post mate, when bicep curling let your wrist bend towards the floor rather than trying to pull it up level with the arm, this is the most common mistake people make.

also try using cod liver oil, i had problems with my joints untill i started using this.
i also use glycocemein (spelling) for joints.
