Rep Power: 101357 | A man should be strong Right now, he's out there. Somewhere.
Right now, someone is walking around who one day, will be the man who starts trouble with you. He may be the one who will try to jump you at night. He may be the one, about whom your lady has to say...... "that man over there is staring at me and it's creeping me out." He may be someone at work one day who tries to set you up to get fired. I don't know who he is, or what he will do, but I guarantee you that right now...... he's out there.
Now... when you meet up with him.......... will you be ready?
A man should be strong. A man should be tough. Of course a man should be a gentleman. Of course he should try to always keep his poise. Of course he should be disciplined. Of course he should be a hard worker. He should be a kind person. But he should also be strong. He should be someone who nobody wants to mess with. Somehow, we live in this bizarro world today where being a pacifist is a virtue. We live in a day where you seem to always have to apologize for stuff because someone got their feelings hurt. Because someone was offended. We live in a day where a gym named Planet Fitness can kick a musclehead out for lifting heavy weight..... grunting because it is heavy...... and be asked to leave. However, the silver lining to this dark cloud is that, even in a day where men are few and far between...... ultimate fighting is extremely popular. And I thank God for that. Here is a place where "affirmative action" does not apply. Considering the feelings of your opponent will get you knocked out. Trying to slap a lawsuit on your opponent will not get you the title belt. And the same thing goes for the iron. No matter what game you try to play in society to ease your conscience and gain an edge on people, there's only one game to be played at the gym. .....And it is the most natural of all tests. What can YOU do with what YOU have and with what YOU are.
When it comes to the iron, and building muscle, "tolerance" has no place. "Pacifism" finds no refuge. Making up conditions that don't exist won't fly either. Words like "bigorexia" may sound clinical and impressive to some worn out, middle aged phsychiatrist....... who needs to go see a phsychiatrist......but they don't work in the gym. In the gym, the desire to be big, muscular, and strong just affirms that all systems are go, and you are a true red blooded man who's young, dumb, and full of piss and vinegar. In the gym, you cannot threaten to sue the iron because it intimidates or offends you. The iron is supposed to intimidate you. The iron takes all comers. The iron has no insecurities. The iron sits and waits at the gym. It see's you walk in the door and scoffs. It see's you in your cute little outfit. When you step up to the rack, the iron steps up too. The iron wants to see if you are a man or a mouse. When you only do your cute little 3 sets of however many reps, the iron speaks to your insecureties.
Listen...........can you hear it? Can you hear the iron ask, "really?, is that all you have?" Listen closely and you can hear the iron say, "I really didn't expect you to show up today." Listen ever so closely during a set and you can hear the iron speak to you. "Wow, this seems heavy."
Those who become strong have earned it. They have taken the iron at it's challenge. They have learned to scoff back at the iron. They have learned to speak out loud against the iron with words like, "ONE MORE REP!" and "NO MATTER WHAT, I'M GETTING 8 REPS!" Understand, however, that the iron never recieves your obstinence. It doesn't get put in it's place. Instead, it rewards you. Those of you who are not in the gym have fallen victim to the insults of the iron. You have taken it personally. That's why you go home in the evening, have a beer, and watch the news. That's why you sleep in and don't hit the gym. The iron has shown you what you really are........a weak man........ and you'd rather not have to face it. You lack the mental fortitude that it takes to become a strong man. You should go get your nails done.
I've thought about this before but the other day it really hit home with me. A couple of days ago, I was in the gym. I got a phone call. "Hey C-Mass, are you still lifting weights?" I told him that I was walking in the gym "right now, as a matter of fact," and I was going to train somebody. When I was training this man, I noticed just how weak we can let ourselves become if we slack off. It's out of place. It's un-natural. It shouldn't be. The poor guy I was training realized it too and decided that fitness was going to become a way of life from now on.
Some of you reading this article need to become a man. Becoming a man is not about being physically strong. It's about having a strong mind. For, if you can master you mind, you can master anything..... including physical strength. Because some of you have not become stong like a man should in your mind, your physical body has followed suit. Remember, you become what you think about. Believe that. Get your mind right about your strength. Get your mind right about being a man. Forsake your excuses, your reasons, and your weak way of thinking. Face your insecurities head on. Look at yourself in the mirror that we call iron. All you need in this world is your mind and your 2 hands that God gave you.
Now go, and become strong. |

Rep Power: 52799 | Re: A man should be strong You need to change this, CM. It's not just men that need to be strong.
As a woman, I've learned a lot of things in my own way, taken a lot of shit that I should never had to take, but all of it's made me stronger. I've survived things most people probably couldn't and had to rebuild myself bit by bit. It's still an ongoing process but I'm now at the point where I can point to my defects and admit they're still under construction. Through all of it, I tore myself down and started again, rebuilding and rebuilding and rebuilding until I couldn't be knocked down, couldn't be broken.
People now - men AND women - are so used to having it easy, so used to getting things handed to them on a plate instead of having to work for it. Thing is, if you never work for something you really want, how would you ever be able to deserve it fully? How could you ever feel like it was earned through your own blood, sweat and tears?
In general, women are too pampered, too used to getting their own way. For the most part they're manipulative, sneaky, cruel and surprisingly vicious at times when they don't have the right clothes, the right car, when they don't get their "due". They want skinny little twigs for bodies with a lollipop-sized head, no muscle definition, no hips, fake tits, fake tans. They rarely eat and then complain they can't do anything.
I fucking HATE that shit!
See, I'm not a small person by any stretch of the imagination. I don't have a lot but what I do have, I've worked my arse off for. I'm about the same height as the so-called men round here and usually lift more than they do in the gym - and every single person who knows what I can lift tells me it isn't "right" that a woman can be stronger than a man, not "natural".
Fuck that bullshit! If I'm stronger than the men round here it's because they can't be bothered to lift their fat lazy arses off the damn couch! I feel good, I'm starting to look good, and the next person who tells me I'm trying to look like a man will get a good clout upside their head.
That's how iron works. Those who can't handle it, who can't handle the adversity present at every session, who can't handle facing something that will never break but will ultimately make them stronger through their own pain and sacrifices just don't deserve it, don't want it enough.
I deserve it, I want it and I WILL get it. I will not be bowed, will not be broken, and will keep coming back for more.
It's a life lesson that more people should adhere to - and it's part of the reason that my kids join in when I work out at home. |
