I talked with the physical therapist about my knee on thursday. she said there was no reason for the doctor to order PT on my knee since it's not a muscular issue. (I have bruised cartilage in my knee)
She said since it's been 3 months since the injury occured and i still can't even do a body weight squat that i need to return to the doc for an MRI and cortisone shots.
I guess mainly for Big Guns, does the cortizone help that much or is it going to set me up for an even greater injury in a few months?? I'm really nervous about this issue and I'm not sure what i should do. I know doing nothing can injure it farther if precautions are not taken, but I'm afraid for the worst also.
Sorry Hun I was away for a while. Cortizone will eliminate the swelling as in Tendonitis, Bursitis....all those 'itises. I don't know that it would help cartilege
As far as not ordering PT is strange. That is always before "C". I feel that there is something else at play here. Hopefully the MRI will answer some questions. I had my Meniscus partially removed and some repaired an I was non weight bearing for 8 weeks....to allow it to heal. But 3-4 months later it was good as new (or used). I would be asking the dr to do a bunch of tests.
Cartilage is very slow to repair as you know, swelling takes time to go down for the same reason that repair is slow.
So basically, did you have a heavy impact to the patella and it crushed the cartilage? Perhaps you some damage to the meniscus as well, like it tore slightly and has remodelled into a less smooth shape? I think that happened to me after the impact I had.
Fortunately, it seems to have got better as of late, but I still get problems. I'm running 3 times a week now and very hard, and it's been the best it's been in the 7 years since it happened.
I'm not weight lifting at all at the moment apart from some pressups and pullups, and I'm actually liking it. I get much more enjoyment from pushing myself aerobically and anaerobically with hard cardio (bike and running) than lifting weights (which was also uncomfortable for my injured joints). I've also dropped some bodyfat and I'm scared of putting on more muscle on my upper body for fear of it slowing me down running (which it definitely will). I'm naturally a much better runner than I am a weightlifter, and I may follow the running or cycling as a sport and fulfill my potential in that.
yep, i'm beginning to realize that it may take up to a year before i can even jog again. hope i don't add any weight. i've lost mass in my lower body i know for sure.
Dammit...is there anything you can do that would help prevent that muscle loss, sdb? Or is it literally a case of healing comes before everything else?
