Rep Power: 370 | Rant: Gym Class I honestly can't believe how stupid my gym class is. The first couple days of the class we basically did nothing. We usually play a game of kickball/dodgeball. Then today we go into the weight room as a class for the first time. The teacher didn't tell us how to use any of the machines or equipment, he just told us to ask if we didn't know how to do something (like a teenager is going to do that). He expected us to create our own workout and right down the weight we used and how many reps per set. People were doing things wrong all over the place. Most of them haven't even worked out in a gym before. Some girls were clashing the weights on the leg extension and a guy was holding the bar for the bench press as the other guy was doing it. It was just a mess! I was paired up with this one girl and I tried to help her know what to do but I have a small amount of knowledge about working out. (Thanks everyone for all of the help that you've given me from your posts on here! )Most people were just standing around because they didn't know what to do.
Shouldn't a teacher be there to show you how to do the different exercises and give you advice on what to do for your workout? I was so mad at him for not giving up any instruction. My partner and I only got through a couple of exercises during the class period but I felt really good after. I just feel really bad for my classmates because they have no idea how to work out and they could ultimately hurt themselves or screw themselves over by something that they did. What should I do in this situation? I definitely want to say something to the teacher about it. Any other things I should do? |

If you're really worried you could talk to the teach after class or even go to her boss. |

lead by example man, thats the best advice I can give. Learn, live, lead. |

And I wouldn't go over your teachers head to their boss--that could come back to bite you in the ass. (I also doubt the higher-ups at your school would consider this a priority).
I would bring in some literature or pictorials with correct exercise postures and suggestions, and show them to your teacher and/or classmates you want to help. I have a feeling at least half of your class isn't going to really care, but you could impress your teacher with this initiative and maybe teach a few people at the same time.

Note: DO NOT help anyone, yet. You have to help yourself before you help others.

If you are going to have a weight oriented class, they better damn well have someone that knows what they're doing. Weight lifting can hurt people easily, especially with the described individual.
Do not be disrespectful in any way, like condor said...bring something for all of them to read! |

Rep Power: 370 | Re: Rant: Gym Class Thanks everyone for your responses. I think the best thing is just to lead by example. I'm mad at my gym teacher but I'll just have to deal with what's going on and help anyone if they need it. |
