Rep Power: 101357 | Up the Protein, Up the muscle I would like to share with you a little of what I've been doing.
I have kicked up my protien intake. Without getting into the science and logic (which I enjoy doing at times), I want to just let you know how I have changed things in my personal diet plan.
I have kicked up my protein intake in my shakes. I'm taking about 60-70 gr. at a time in my shakes. Lunch is now 3 chicken breasts with spaghettii. For supper, I'll kick it up to 3 chicken breasts again. I'm drinking 30 gr. protein drinks with my breakfast of 4 eggs and turkey sausage on the weekends. That's not much, but it's a little more for me. I'm getting ready to start downing shakes with breakfast every morning. Lately, I've been taking in more protein before bed.
If you have seen my website, you see that I usually don't have a shake before bed. It's really heavy on my stomach, and when that happens, I can't sleep. I'm kind of miserable. So I just have a glass of milk. Well, now I'm putting unflavored protein powder in that glass of milk. And last, I'm drinking a gallon and a half a day. I know this because I take 2 gallons of water with me in the truck and I end up with half of one at the end of the day.
The results are:
I'm bigger, and noticeably more swole. I get asked daily, "C-Mass, are u taking steroids?" I let my friends at work call me C-Mass
I'm harder than Chinese Trigonometry in the dark.
I recover quicker.
I'm seeing new muscle tone in places I didn't have it before.
My joints can handle the weight more. I've been loading up the leg press and overhead hack squat to the max, and still can rep out without hurting my knee.
I just wanted to share this with you all. If there's any way you can look at our own diet and think, "yeah, I need to eat more protein!," then great! I want you to succeed and grow muscle.
It's like I said before, there's not many true hardgainers.... there's just a whole lot of under-eaters! |

I agree w/ your thoughts. I eat 50-60g/meal. Then fill in a few carbs and some fat. |

I was getting close to 200g of protein a day but then i learned about the effects of eating a high amount of protein and that more protein doesnt always mean bigger/stronger muscles so i lowered my protein intake to where i dont have any protein shakes and i dont really keep track of it anymore, and i greatly increased the carbs. After the first week of doing this i was already noticing that i felt stronger in the gym and was able to lift more, what do yall think? |

Rep Power: 101357 | Re: Up the Protein, Up the muscle Yeah, I've heard of that. I've heard it many days. Listen, too much water will kill you. What's safer than water? Nothing. Yet IT will kill you when taken in excess. Anyone remember the story recently about the chick DJ who drank 2 gal. at one sitting and it killed her. Or how about the high school athlete who drank way too much water after practice and died. So yes, everything in excess will cause unwanted results.
That being said, understand that excessive protein may have been the culprit in many people's kidney problems, but by and large, it's just not the case. The reason you got more strength is because you increased your carbohydrates. NOT because you decreased your protein. Now, keep your carbohydrate count where it is, and kick your protein count back up and you will grow a little faster.
You read that excessive protein doesn't nessecarily give you bigger or stronger muscles. Well, lets analyze that. Protein breaks down into amino acids, which go to the muscles for recovery and growth. Then they are stored in your muscles. The less aminos, the slower the recovery, and ergo, the less a muscle can grow to accomodate heavy lifting.
Doctors usually preach that about .35 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight should be enough. But that is for the average person. The average person is not pressing 200 - 300 lbs. off their chest, legs and shoulders twice a week. .....And so on. The more stress you put on your muscles, the more your body calls for extra aminos to repair the damage.
And really, that's what we are doing when we lift weights with intensity. We are damaging the muscles, and eating protein and carbs to help repair and rebuild the muscles stronger and bigger. |

Rep Power: 115640 | Re: Up the Protein, Up the muscle ...200g of protein will not hurt you unless you weigh 50 pounds.
between 1-2g per lb of LEAN BODY MASS (meaning if you have 10%bf at 200lbs, 1g per pound of bodyweight would be 180g, 2g per pound would mean 360g).
My ex. Phys. professor was german so of course he used the not-so-american-scale and came up with 1g per kg of bodyweight (200lb = 90kg = 90g protein), but like Cmass said, THAT IS FOR AVERAGE PEOPLE. Average people sit on their asses all day watching TV. If you train, hard, you need much more protein.
I know quite a few people that were natural BBers that ate their asses off and guess what, they're in their 60s - 80s still busting their asses in the gym lol. Unless you're eating 500g of protein a day at 180 pounds, really, you don't need to worry about shit. |

too much protein has NEVER benn Proven to cause stress on the liver or kidnyes. Only time was w/ people that ALREADY HAD problems w/ the 2 organs. It's 100% bullshit!!! I know guys that eat 400g/day....AOK...I eat 300-350/day every day for 10 years...and my liver and kidney blood works comes back perfect. Stop listening to mothers and Dr.s that know NOTHING about building muscle.
The guys in the Gym that eat 25g/meal "because that's what they read is all the body can work with".......NEVER get any bigger...mean while I always gained muscle. I am 46 today and look better than 90% of people in all gyms. CM is one of the 10%.
