When to evaluate weight gain

I just got done cutting and the last time I "bulked" I gained weight really fast (fat). My question is how often do you evaluate weight gain? I of course want to gain muscle, but how do I know if I am eating enough or not enough how long should I give it? I plan on eating about 3000 calories. My BMR is 2000 and I will be going to th gym 4-5 days a week.

Re: When to evaluate weight gain

Mirror and the scales... its trial and error really, if I were you start off on 2700 calories and every week weight yourself, you only want to be up about a pound a week. Now you are definitly going to put on fat but if you are putting on more than 1 lb per week it maybe more fat than muscle, if your losing or staying the same raise the cals up by 100 till your gaining a little per week...

As for the mirror just keep an eye on yourself... There is a good thread in the nutrition section on how to work out the calories you need to bulk. ill try find it again for you...

Just don't get frustrated if you arent gaining that fast just take your time, Train hard and eat big and CLEAN and youll reach your goals... Remember Body Building is a lifestyle

it depends on what the dr is saying. i serously doubt you gained a true 13 lbs. some of it could be fluid.

Re: When to evaluate weight gain

It took Ronnie Coleman 10 years to gain 70lbs!!!!!!
Same w/ all other ifbb pros. If you gain 5 lbs of pur muscle in a year you are doing good. You wanted to get big and you got fat. Now you can keep adding bodyfat for a few years and then get on a great diet workout plan an lean down. you will have gained some muscle because it will take excess cals to produce muscle. Everyone wants to cram 10 years of growth in 6 months......ain't gonna happen.
I just eat at or just above by cals for the day. I stay lean and have taken a few years to put on some size...yet I'm never over 10% BF.

Bib Belly nailed it.!!!

Re: When to evaluate weight gain

over the past 3 weeks or so I have been adding 200cals. I am up to about 2700 so I will hold here for a bit and see what the scale says and go from there. Now 1lbs per week is alot of weight over a 2-3 month period. Shouldnt it be like 2lbs per month?
