Rep Power: 30 | Why Do Some Teens Compete When They're Small? I don't understand it. The only way I will compete is if I know I can come out on top or at least come close. A lot of teens are quick to cut and basically look like nothing afterwards. Maybe it's just me but I think a good base is more important than competing before you're ready to win. |

Rep Power: 1951 | They probably do it for experience, Myself being a wrestler go to a lot of wrestling tournaments just for the experience even if I know I am not going to come close to a top spot. Getting a feel of the competition and comparing yourself against others figuring out what you need to improve on.
Remember that bodybuilding competitions aren't all about mass. There are many factors in winning a bodybuilding competition such as definition, symmetry, good posing ect...
And also they are only teenagers and probably don't even have very much mass yet. They have to drop their body fat very low so they don't look as big as they would with a higher body fat percentage.

But I have to agree strongly with S.Soldier here. I am onne of tho's skinny teens in a way.... i wanted to compete a few years ago. I was very skinny, so my first thought was 'why compete now if im not gonna win.. and also look a bit.. well, stupid!'
So i started training, as of yet, to this day, I still want to compete but i feel i am still no where near ready! and that is with the physique i have now...
For me, i'll need another stone on my weight and also to be ripped to shreds.. so i think thats another year or two away...
But ... my day will come!!! |

Rep Power: 40 | Most sports have lower divisions where you can learn your craft....like Jr High or High school. It is very smart to learn when you are young so I say these kids are doing the right thing. It is sad when you see a guy with 0 experience who could have win a show lose because he has no idea how to cut and peek for a show and looks silly on stage because he has no experience......better to make mistakes when it doesn't matter and when it wont be remembered. |

for me personally, i know that when my body is right, i'll be ok in a show - even thought i've never competed!
i've been to plenty of shows, studied nearly all pro's and i always practice. so i believe i have done my 'homework' as it were to make sure i would know what to do...
as for cutting, never done it.. dont see the point until i have the size i need.. but the time spent cutting will be all new to me and i will look for help when that time comes! |

There is no way I would cut just to practice. I just don't see the need to. I practice posing everyday although I am not an expert on it. When I do start cutting, I will have it studied to the T and hopefully I know my body well enough by then to do it correctly. |

Rep Power: 9 | response to young teen competitors They are probably just excited. Shit i know i was excited in my first contest. I looked like crap in my opinion but my mom tells me i was just starting out. I have competed in 3 competitions since and each i have made a big difference so it was good experience to just jump in. |

You can wait till your very good, physique wise - and when you go on stage, even if your not that experienced, you look good and the judges will remember you.
Or you can go in straight away - not so much of a good body, but you'll gave valuable experience, but on that side of things, the judges may see you and think theres that guy who knows exactly what he's doing, but doesn't actually have a good physique!
Either way, both approaches should lead to the guy being experienced AND have a good body |
