difficult to put on weight

Im quite tall 16, 150lbs 5,10-11 man and i just look skinny i eat 2800calories a day now since i got my diet, is it a case of time or do i need more calories to make me fill out?

its like the taller you are the skinnier your going to look .

also i wont be at gym for a while 1 week hopefully, i had a cold comming on through last week and now i think its chest infection as its tight when i breath and when i cough up yellow it eases it, id of gone to docs today but they arent open so gotta wait till monday .

i mean i went to bed and i was feeling like i couldnt breath in my chest then i just went to sleep woke up and i had a pain in my left pec and around the side and back so this is somthing to do with my lungs i think so its mostl ikely chest infection, i was sat up all night with it but today its gotten better , i was scared of it been a heart attack but im 16 so shouldnt have to worry about that.

Ive taken some multi-vitamins and some vitamin C suppliments to help my immune system and im not feeling as sickly so im eating normal.

Is it ok to eat junk food if i dont put on weight easily? i dont mean alot i mean like once a week a pizza etc.. and rest of week 100% healthy?

I just want to be healthy, in good shape and hopefully by weight lifting and cardio be healthy for when im older.

sorry if i seem to be nagging abit with questions i just get worried and i also think in my mind am i getting bigger, am i doing it right etc... sorry for the long post guys . oh and one more thing im not sure when to breath in and out when perfomring excersises like says with DB chest press should ibreath in when pushing up or when comming down? i think i strained my muscle in my ab from doing it wrong?

thanks alot

Re: difficult to put on weight

If you want to grow you need more calories. add 1000 if you want to gain. Just increase everything equally. And yes you can junk once a week. I recommend it.

Breath in at the top before you lower the weight, then exhale at about 3/4 of the extension.

Re: difficult to put on weight

As a beginner just starting out lifting, my diet was terrible, yet I still put on some good gains.

I'm not saying eating junk food is bad, but it doesn't mean you wont put on weight.

Best thing is always to stick to as near the 100% clean as you can, but as BGs said, its a good thing to have a little cheat meal once or twice through the week..

just take in more calories and you'll grow

Re: difficult to put on weight

At your age you are natrually growing at a tremendous rate. You need the extra calories to grow out side of the natrual growth sputs you are experincing. Eat as you wish you are only young once. enjoy your teen years with out feeling you have to be on a regimin.

I am a hard gainer and don't eat extremely clean, because i need the extra calories to maintain a certian body weight.

As far as asking questions that is what boards are for, to research and learn. I know i a new here but i have no issues on helpng a person who is new to the lifestyle.

That is a double negative son. The don't do ANYTHING is correct. See you really can learn here.

You seem to have a lot of issues w/ your abs. I don't know if they are weak or what. But stop complaining. I hate to sound like a d#^k but you always have an issue. I wake up 4-5 times per night from the the shoulder pain. 2400mg of Ibuprofen for 3 weeks has helped, but I can't sleep long on either side or my back. My ankle still hurts from a July accident. Flexibility is for sh!t. I currently have an ingrown nail BUT I don't complain. Just deal w/ the soreness and train around it. How are you straining your abs? Are they really that weak? If they are start doing some crunches everyday. If the Dr. hasn't pulled you in for surgery, stop worrying. You will have injuries in this lifestyle. We ALL have experienced them. I was Non-wight bearing for 8 weeks after my first klnee surgery. It was almost 3 months before I could walk on it. I still went to the gym and trained around it. IN PAIN!!!!

simple stuff like coughing/sneezing can pull a chest or ab muscle. everyone, even non-weight training people, gets pulled muscles. you rest and move on until your next injury.

Welcome to being active, we're more injury prone because we're not sitting on our asses.

and eat more if you're not gaining weight. simple enough, right?

That is what happens when you play TOO hard sometimes. Don't regret a moment of it. 3 knee surgeries, 2 broken wrists, broken tib/fib, broken ribs that keep me from doing anything where I have to lay on equipment and pull, Hernia, Twisted to sh!t left ankle, frost bitten ear(whole thing was white). oh yeah and a tonsilectomy !!

Re: difficult to put on weight

I strained by ab muscle like 6 years ago training abs really heavy (too heavy.)

Reminded me of a less severe rib injury. It hurt with almost anything. Sneezing was the worst.

Either way just laid off it until it stopped hurting about 4-6 weeks. After that I would look into some core strengthening exercises.
