confused Muscle imbalances

This might be because i'm a natural right-hander but for some reason my right pec is a bit bigger than my left. Now this doesn't seem like a big problem at first but i can feel a difference in the size of my upper right pec compared to my left.
Also whenever i bench press, i notice its usually my left that gives out first, so you just see me with a bar half raised at a massive tilt.
I dunno if this is cause i switched to barbell incline all of a sudden instead of with dumbbells, which is what i used to do. Anyway are there any other ways, apart from switching back to dumbbells, that I can allow my left side to catch up?
Cheers in advance

Re: Muscle imbalances

How long have you been working out? Normally whenever benching with a barbell if one side is going up faster than the other is because a person doesnt bench often or has just started. Its not referred to as a muscle imbalance. A muscle imbalance would be a posterior tilt, rounded shoulders, or something like adducted knees when squatting. More than likely you will come out of it. Alot of people have problems with one part of their body being bigger or smaller than others, dont let that part worry you.

Re: Muscle imbalances

Right/Left dominance is normal in people who begin to work out.

I don't have a "size" issue as much as I have the dominance thing. I tend to have to do an extra set of biceps curls with my left side normally so it'll keep up. Other than that, I'm pretty much balanced. If you're a beginner, give it a little time, the size should balance out over time.

Re: Muscle imbalances

Oh sorry about the confusion with muscle imbalances then, i get what you mean about how having stronger muscle groups over others can alter your image.
Anyway I've been working out since March but i've been benching since about May i'd say. If it helps further I was only using dumbbells back then as well up until about a month ago when i started using the barbell instead.

I think you're right in how i shouldn't get too worried, I've still got many years of training to come by and as long as one doesn't look too out of whack with the other then it's all gravy.

Re: Muscle imbalances

If you'd been using DB's only and swapped over to BB's, it's probably a movement thing then with the bar dropping. Your muscles got use to a particular arc move, now that you're doing it with a bar and with less shoulder movement, your body is having to get used to a new "lift".
