Working out before bed?

I'm just wondering if working out before bed would be a bad thing?

Working out, downing a shake, showering and heading off to sleep.

I'm just wondering if this is acceptable.
Will it cause cramping or will I have trouble sleeping?

What are some pros and cons of working out before bed?

Thanks!

Yu'll have trouble sleeping, try taking atleast 1 hour after working out then head to bed.

Re: Working out before bed?

If that's the only time you can train and you can get to sleep I guess it's OK. But you will probably do better if you can train a few hours before you sleep.

Re: Working out before bed?

Do you have time to work out first thing in the morning? This is what I do. It really works good for me and it sets my metabolism for the day.

Re: Working out before bed?

I wouldn't do it. Your body needs a good amount of nutrition after a workout. Plus, an intense workout would probably get the adrenaline going, and prevent you from sleeping.

I see only cons...

As oppossed to what? Not working out at all? You would rather not work out at all rather than before bed?

Re: Working out before bed?

Whatever works for you. If you don't have a problem falling asleep I would say go for it. When I worked 3rd shift I always workout in the morning right after work.

Re: Working out before bed?

I just fit one in when I can. Sometimes it's at 10:30pm when the gym closes, better than nothing. Just grab all the food you can, hit the sack, maybe get up for a midnight snack, and eat like a tank the next day.

I always find I get a better session in later in the day, but because the gym is always busier I try to get in in the mornings nowadays.
