Re: Heavy Bag

It will mostly work the shoulders, triceps, and obliques. It really wont develop those muscles, but it will build endurance with your wind.

Cardio is any exercise that uses the aerobic system.

Re: Heavy Bag

I'm guessing it would be more of an anaerobic form of cardio training.

Re: Heavy Bag

Good cardio. I have one but it's at my parents house. My gym doesn't have one.

That is an oxy-moron ya kno...the whole concept of "cardio" is that your body moves oxygen. Once the body realizes it cannot use the aerobic system to continue, it switches to anaerobic (it can switch back and forth with almost no effort). Even HIIT is not really "cardio" considering It doesn't take the oxygen system to sprint for 30 seconds.

If you're doing 20 second punch sets, then it is no longer "cardio".

Now, all exercise effectively "trains" your heart, but I wouldn't call my weight training "cardio" and it certainly doesn't use the aerobic system.

I guess its all in your definition of everything.

Maybe I'm just rambling on my earliest morning of the week

anyway, bottom line is that hitting a heavy bag doesn't use the aerobic system, however it is a hell of a workout!

Re: Heavy Bag

Heavy bag work outs are great! Good call on the new equipment.

I like doing intervals on the bag, kind of like boxing rounds. 3 minutes all out, then a 1 minute break, for at least 5 or 6 rounds. It's also good when it's too cold outside to run, or if you have any running injuries but still want the great cardio.
