Rep Power: 1235 | Elliptical Trainer vs Running Which is better? I dont mind running, but after the first day I get shin splints. So today I tried the elliptical and messed with some of the settings on there to get it to where I thoguht it was tough enough. I want to be able to run and not get out of breath will the elliptical help me with that? Or is running better? My question is, is the elliptical just as good as running? |

With shin splints - as far as I'm aware - it's down to the footwear and lack of support (particularly in the arch area).
I always get a better workout when running outside of the gym. I can control speed, distance, time, terrain within seconds instead of having to think about it and hit the right buttons.
But maybe that's just me. This might help. |

There are a few exercises you can do for shin splints, try toe taps, it'll work the front of your shin and strengthen up that muscle... |

It should take care of your shin splints, and keep your body as anabolic as possible while doing cardio.
If you're doing it for sports, stick with sprints.
Long distance running has no benefit to bodybuilding, unless you simply enjoy doing it -- in that case run forever if you like. |

I tried only walking and loved it but it's just the time it takes. |

keep your heart rate between 120-140bpm | I remember you saying I should walk at 4mph and 4% incline. I tried this the other day after lifting and I noticed that my HR was around 150bpm, should i drop the speed down or the incline? |

Some heartrate monitors are incorrect with their numbers, if you think this machine is on you could try to lower the incline, but honestly 4/4 shouldn't get your heartrate that high... |
