In 1991, I began powerlifting while in prison, focusing mainly on legs, chest, and shoulders, though I did workout other body parts as well. In 2001, I injured my right rotary cuff while doing weighted pullups and didn't workout again for around 6 years.
In late 2007, I tinkered with the weights again, but could never seem to get motivated. A few months later, I stopped all together and hadn't touched a weight again till May of this year.
Realizing I would need an extra incentive to get back into it, I forked over some money on a gym membership. I have always had strong reservations about wasting money and when I put my hard-earned bread into something, I'll use it. So on May 5th, I began hitting the gym 3-4 days out of the week.
I can't honestly say I have a set routine, as I like to constantly change things up. But I do have a system of sorts. Basically, it goes something like this: If I haven't worked it in 3 or 4 days, I'll hit it and never do I go longer than a week to work a particular muscle again. Because of my work schedule, I can't get to the gym as often as I'd like, but I do go twice a day, 3-4 days out of the week.
As for what I'm doing, I generally do chest with bicepts, lats with tricepts and forearms, upper legs with abs, and calves with shoulders and traps. I often hit my abs 2 or 3 times a week and once a week I'll do deadlifts.
Apparantly it's been paying off for me as the following pics will attest:
